Nicola Miskin wins Most beautiful stamp
In an exciting announcement our very own Nicola Miskin, has won the prestigious title of “Most Beautiful Stamp” awarded by PostEurop’s Expert Jury. This accolade celebrates outstanding artistic achievements in stamp design and recognises the vital role these small pieces of art play in cultural communication.
This year’s theme is Underwater Fauna and Flora which Nicola’s underwater imagery captures perfectly as she photographs seascapes and sea life across the island, with a twist. She uses the water’s surface to reflect the focus of her images.
“I see colour and patterns; reflections and distortions; mirror images and movement. I see all this below the surface of the sea, my happy place, another world of amazing beauty.”
This method can be seen in the titular stamp that won her the award, photographing local periwinkles. Mostly found within seaweed across the lower end of the shore where they feed, the flat periwinkle comes in various colours, including orange, olive green, bright yellow and various browns.
Nicola started her underwater photography journey when she was sea swimming with a friend who loaned her an old camera. She first started experimenting with taking photos above the surface, using the water’s reflections to mirror objects. Recently, she has delved underwater focusing her creativity on rock pools, sealife and seascapes which can be seen in her Europa Stamp 2024 edition collection.
We’re so proud of Nicola’s achievement and would like to congratulate her for her work. If you would like to see more of her photography or purchase her stamps please click here.
