This is a senior appointment with genuine scope. You will take ownership of our client accounting function — the preparation, review and delivery of financial statements and management information across a portfolio of Jersey and international structures — and you will be given the latitude to shape how that function operates as it grows.
It suits someone who wants more than a review queue. You will hold your own client relationships, work directly alongside our tax and legal teams on structuring and compliance matters, and play a real part in how the firm develops.
What you will do
Financial reporting
- Prepare and review statutory and non-statutory financial statements for Jersey and non-Jersey companies, trusts, partnerships and holding structures under FRS 102 (including Section 1A), FRS 105 and IFRS
- Prepare consolidated accounts for group structures, including consolidation adjustments, intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation
- Ensure accounts prepared for Jersey companies meet the requirements of the Companies (Jersey) Law 1991 and, where relevant, applicable equivalent overseas requirements
- Prepare trust and partnership accounts, including capital and income accounting where the trust instrument requires it
- Deliver periodic management accounts, cash flow reporting and bespoke management information
Client portfolio management
- Act as principal point of contact for a portfolio of client relationships, taking responsibility for delivery, quality and commercial outcome
- Scope engagements, agree fees, manage work in progress and take ownership of billing and recovery on your portfolio
- Manage the annual compliance cycle end to end, holding clients and internal teams to agreed deadlines
- Liaise with auditors on audited entities, preparing audit files and resolving queries efficiently
Technical and cross-functional work
- Work alongside the tax team to ensure accounts support Jersey and UK corporate tax filing positions, including Jersey income tax returns, distribution and shareholder taxation issues, and UK filing obligations where applicable
- Support the fiduciary team on economic substance, FATCA and CRS classification and reporting matters as they touch the accounting record
- Contribute to structuring and transaction work where accounting treatment drives the analysis — reorganisations, share transfers, distributions, loan arrangements and property transactions
- Identify technical issues proactively and raise them early, in writing, with a recommended course of action
Leadership and firm building
- Supervise, review and develop junior and part-qualified staff, including study support and structured feedback
- Own and improve our accounting processes, templates, working paper standards and use of technology
- Contribute to business development: existing client expansion, intermediary relationships, and the wider Jersey professional network
- Support the firm’s regulatory obligations as a JFSC-registered business, including adherence to the relevant Codes of Practice and internal risk and AML procedures
What we are looking for
Essential
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification, with substantial post-qualification experience
- Demonstrable experience preparing and reviewing financial statements under FRS 102 and/or IFRS
- Experience in professional practice, fiduciary services or a similar client-facing environment
- Sound working knowledge of consolidations, group structures and multi-currency accounting
- Confidence dealing directly with clients, intermediaries, auditors and regulators
- Strong written English — our output is read by clients, banks and regulators, and it needs to be right
- The judgement to know when a question needs escalating and when it does not
Desirable
- Working knowledge of Jersey and/or UK corporate tax compliance
- Trust accounting experience
- Fund or property structure accounting experience
- Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and workflow — we use Xero and Clio Manage
- Existing right to work in Jersey, under the Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law 2012
How you work
We care less about pedigree than about how you operate. The people who do well here are curious about the technical detail, straightforward in how they communicate, comfortable owning a piece of work from start to finish, and generous with colleagues.
If you would rather flag a problem early than present a polished answer late, you will fit.
What we offer
- Competitive salary reviewed annually, plus discretionary performance bonus
- Pension contribution / private medical / life assurance
- 25 days’ annual leave plus Jersey public holidays
- Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
- Full support for continuing professional development, including funded professional subscriptions and technical training
- Direct exposure to the Managing Director and to the wider BCR Group’s legal and advisory work
- A clear route to Associate Director and beyond for the right person, we promote from within
- Relocation support and assistance with work permissions for candidates moving to Jersey, where eligible.
Living in Jersey
Jersey combines a serious international finance centre with a nine-mile-by-five island. The commute is measured in minutes, the beaches are genuinely good, and the professional community is small enough that a strong reputation travels quickly. For candidates relocating with family, we are happy to talk candidly about schools, housing and what the move actually involves.
