The Jersey Legal Aid Scheme provides free legal representation for those facing criminal charges who cannot afford to instruct a lawyer privately. It is overseen by the Law Society of Jersey and the Legal Aid Office. Advocates accepting instructions under the Legal Aid Scheme must have the appropriate criminal law accreditation.

No. If you are eligible for Legal Aid you are not required to make any contribution to your legal fees. You must meet the eligibility criteria in order to qualify for legal aid.
