I didn’t plan to be a lawyer. I studied politics and history at university because they are fascinating subjects, but I had no great ambition to be a historian, still less a politician. I had to choose something, so I chose law, specifically criminal law. Perhaps because I watched too many police procedurals and courtroom dramas when I should have been studying. In real life legal practice is not as dramatic (or glamourous) as on film. But it is interesting and challenging work and it gives me the opportunity to help people through difficult times.
