Grow a Mo, Save a Bro: BCR take on the Movember Movement
Every November, men across the globe grow moustaches as part of Movember, an annual event dedicated to raising awareness and funding for men’s health issues. At BCR Law we have made no exception and have gotten almost every man in the firm to grow (or at least attempt to grow) the most luxurious moustaches. Everyone is starting from scratch and has gone clean shaven at the start of this month (babyface pics at the end of this article for your amusement) and will be growing their Mo for the next 4 weeks.

The Origins of Movember
Movember began in Melbourne, Australia, when a group of friends decided to revive the moustache as a symbol of men’s health awareness. They wanted to use the simple act of growing facial hair to draw attention to serious health issues that often don’t get the same level of awareness as others. What began as a small, local movement grew rapidly, and today Movember is a global phenomenon with millions of participants from more than 20 countries.Â
Since its inception, Movember has focused on three key areas of men’s health: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health. The campaign encourages men to grow moustaches throughout the month of November, with the goal of raising both funds and awareness.Â

Mind JerseyÂ
BCR’s focus for Movember this year is on mental health, as we are raising funds predominantly for Mind Jersey, a local mental health charity that aims to bring awareness, support, and change stigmatism around mental health. Â
‘Even though 1 in 4 people have mental health problems, most of us don’t get the help we need. This has to change. We’re Mind. We’re here to fight for mental health. For support, for respect, for you’ – MindÂ
Â
Why Mental health?
Mental health support has sadly been underfunded in Jersey. This has been displayed with the permanent closure of mental health organisation, Jersey Recovery College due to financial difficulties. This proves that fundraising and awareness for mental health is more important than ever before in Jersey, and it’s a crucial time to make sure there is sufficient help for those who need it on the island.Â
