Things that nourish me:
Summer sunsets on the beach (though I have a soft spot for sunrises too) / laughing and making memories with family and friends / Poochy and Malachi (my gorgeous dogo and sweet little cat) / Portugal (where my heart feels most at home, the smell of the sea, the people, the cobbled streets, sunshine that warms more than just your skin and the food!!!) / expresso martinis / Sunday dinners with the family / my nieces and nephew / a good comedy / traveling and experiencing new cultures / music and dancing / Coffee dates and catch-ups with friends / the fresh scent of eucalyptus / A galão and bolo de arroz / the girls’ trip (a yearly reunion with the uni girls) / cooking / baking / true crime.

Soraia joined BCR Law in November 2022 as a Legal Assistant within the Firm’s internal training programme. She has completed rotational seats in the Dispute Resolution, Wills and Probate, Property and Family teams at BCR. Soraia now assists the family team with various ongoing client matters and supports them with any required administration.
My interest in law began through personal experience. Growing up, I often found myself supporting family and friends who struggled to express themselves, as English wasn’t their first language. I would interpret for them and help communicate their concerns in situations where they weren’t being fully understood. I saw firsthand how difficult it can be to feel like you don’t have a voice and the impact that can have on a person.
Although I’ve always been a people person, these experiences sparked a passion for helping others and ensuring that people feel seen and heard. That’s what eventually led me to study law at university.
After graduating, I returned home and was fortunate to join BCR Law’s internal rotational programme. At the time, I wasn’t sure which area of law I wanted to go into, and this opportunity allowed me to explore that. Through 6-month placements in Dispute Resolution, Wills and Estates, Property, and Family law, I was able to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of work.
Each seat gave me a clearer picture of how law touches people’s lives in different ways from resolving disputes and helping families through difficult transitions, to supporting clients with deeply personal matters. It helped me better understand where my strengths lie, and most importantly, reaffirmed why I chose this path in the first place; to help others feel heard, understood, and supported.
