How a Childhood Allergy Accidentally Launched My Legal Career
I would be lying if I said I always wanted to be a lawyer. I wanted to be a vet when I was a kid, until I realised I was allergic to many animals! After I finished my A-levels I knew I wanted to enrol on a degree that would provide me with ample job opportunities and that I wanted to start making my own money as soon as possible (to the delight of my parents). I also knew that I was a ‘words person’ rather than a ‘numbers person’. So, I started a law degree and my role as a Registrar at the Employment and Discrimination Tribunal Service at the same time. I later moved into the Family Court as a Family Proceedings Officer. I enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life and assisting them with their matters, watching the Judges and Lawyers in Court, and learning about different areas of law as well as the procedural rules involved. I liked working in the Court service, so that is where I stayed for seven years.
After passing the law degree I enrolled in the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations. Once I had completed those, I needed two years’ experience in a private law firm, and that is how I found BCR Law. The two years have flown by, and I am now part of the furniture in the Dispute Resolution and Employment teams.
