I am a relatively recent arrival in Jersey, having moved here from London with my family at the end of 2022.
After a successful career in market research, I decided, at the age of 28, to embark on a part-time law degree. This involved evening and weekend lectures while continuing to hold down a day-job as a Market Research Executive.
I had never really considered a career in the law (well, not since growing up in the 1980s and watching Jimmy Smits in L.A Law!) but as I progressed with my law degree, I realised the intellectual challenge and potential to help people find solutions to their problems, made working in the law an attractive prospect.
I qualified as a solicitor in 2009 after completing a training contract at Kennedys, a law firm in London. Upon qualification, I joined Kennedys’ Healthcare Division where I specialised in clinical negligence claims.
I was introduced to Jersey by my wife, whose father has lived here since the 1990s. From 2003 we returned on an annual basis and would enjoy many holidays over the next 20 or so years. On each occasion we would look forward to a warm welcome from friends and family and would embrace the fun atmosphere, beautiful scenery and change of pace from living and working in London.
Over time we came to think of Jersey as a second home and when our two children were born, we would bring them to visit their grandparents on a regular basis and before long, they too, began to feel at home in Jersey.
My wife and I started contemplating raising our sons on this idyllic and vibrant island and enjoying everything it had to offer our family.
I was fortunate enough to secure a role at BCR Law as an English Qualified Solicitor within the Dispute Resolution team, specialising in clinical negligence and personal injury matters in 2022.
I used to have hobbies back in London, including deejaying and karate but these days, I seem to spend most of my spare time walking the dog, running around after my boys and studying Jersey law to qualify as an Advocate. For now, I am just happy to have traded a daily commute on the London Underground for Liberty Busses and the coast road…
